Reporting Pathways

Immediate support? 

If you need immediate support on campus, please contact LSE security services. Security staff are on duty at the Old Building reception desk 24 hours a day. They can help in an on-campus emergency by calling 020 7955 6555. 

In case of emergencies, please call 999 for police or ambulance services.  

 

Harassment, bullying, discrimination, sexual violence and hate crime have no place at our School.

Report any incidents that you have experienced or witnessed, anonymously or with contact details, on our online reporting platform Report + Support.

Anyone can use this reporting platform including LSE students, staff, alumni, visitors and members of the public.

Reporting with contact details

Any reports from staff will be reviewed and triaged by HR. A HR partner will contact the reporting person within 3 working days to confirm the details of the report, share support that is available and offer a meeting to agree on next steps. 

Student reports, and all other reports will be reviewed and triaged by Student Services. A student services colleague will contact the reporting person within 3 working days to confirm the details of the report, share the support that is available and offer a meeting to agree what actions will be taken.  

No formal proceedings will be automatically initiated from a Report + Support entry, the reporting person will be spoken to about various options which may include informal resolutions such as class changes, work adjustments, no-contact arrangements or more formal routes such as disciplinary investigations. 

Anonymous reporting

Contact with the reporting person cannot be made following an anonymous report as the School will not have the relevant contact details.  

Anonymous reports are reviewed by Students Services or HR, depending on the reporting person. The information provided via anonymous reports helps the School understand what is happening on campus, appropriately assess risk and make targeted interventions when appropriate.

 

Speak in-person with someone

If you're unsure if you want to make a report or need support completing the online form, you can speak to a  Safe Contact or the Independent Sexual Violence Support Service. They will be able to offer further guidance to help you decide if you would like to report your experience and take the initial steps.

Student Services

The Head of Student Services and the Deputy Head of Student Services are both  Safe Contacts and have extensive experienced in handling student reports of harassment, discrimination, hate crime, bullying and sexual misconduct.  

They can meet with you on campus or arrange for an online meeting, if you would like to report an incident/s in-person rather than using Report + Support

Legal Team

LSE's Legal Team are responsible for advising on a wide variety of legal matters across the School. 

Part of their role lies in investigating Student Complaints and Student Disciplinary matters at the formal stage of the  Student Complaints Procedure and the  Disciplinary Procedure for Students.  View LSE Policies, Procedures and Guidance for more information.

Students who wish to initiate the formal stage of the procedure can directly report an allegation of misconduct to the Legal team.

Residential Services Team

The Residential Services Teamat LSE is made up of Wardens, Subwardens, Res Life staff, Hall Committee members and student Peer Supporters. 

Subwardens act as first point of contact for students in halls - including out-of-hours and at weekends - and will signpost students to other support services or escalate incidents or reports to their Warden or the Head of Residential Life. 

You can report incidents that occur within LSE accommodation to Wardens and Subwardens. A Warden or their nominee can investigate alleged misconduct under the  LSE Student Accommodation Disciplinary Code. Serious misconduct matters will be escalated to LSE Legal Team to investigate under the Disciplinary Procedure for Students. View LSE Policies, Procedures and Guidance for more information.

Reporting in Person (Staff)

The HR team supports staff, including students who are also employed as a member of staff. Each area of the School has its own dedicated HR Partner, who you can contact directly about specific HR-related issues. A list of HR partners and the division or department they are allocated to, can be found on the HR people page.  

Reporting to the Police

You may wish to report an incident to the police. In an emergency police can be contacted via 999. For non-emergency the police can be contacted via 101. You can also report online: Report | Metropolitan Police 

For incidents of sexual violence, including sexual harassment, assault or rape, the Independent Sexual Violence Support Service can provide guidance and support to make a report to the police.  

Reporting to LSE and the Police

You can report to LSE and the Police. The Police investigation will take precedent however LSE can take precautionary measures whilst a Police investigation is carried out. Please see The Harassment Management Group page to learn about precautionary measures.
